THE BEST EVENT IN DAR SINCE 2001

THE GOAT RACES HISTORY

In 2001, a number of undaunted individuals from Dar es Salaam brought a then rather unknown species to the attention of a broader audience: the Racing Goat. Since then, being the star of one of the city’s premier charity events, the endurance and athletic appearance of this furry racer has kept attracting huge crowds of Racing Goat enthusiasts every year. At the same time, the Racing Goat helped raise millions of Shillings for Tanzanians in need.

During the past 19 years the Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races have supported a large number of organizations and charities within the local community and have directly and indirectly impacted positively on the lives of thousands of underprivileged people in Tanzania.

Despite this huge achievement, despite their love for the Racing Goat and knowing that the job will never be done the Goat Races Committee in 2017 decided to take a break. This decision left behind many sad fans of the Racing Goat. Moreover, the prospect of discontinuing an event that played such a sustained and important role in our community called for action.

Enter the Rotary Club of Oyster Bay.

Having a similar vision as the Goat Races Committee, with a strong belief that we have to engage the underprivileged members of society before they engage us, the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay decided to continue the Goat Races and immediately started working on the 2018 edition  held on 23 June, 2018, under the Motto: Wakanda Goat Are You?

This year's  motto ‘Celebrating the world's greatest heroes’, will attract new fans and previous Goat Race enthusiasts likewise. ‘As in previous years, the Goat Races were able to attract large sponsors and this year will be no different’.

This year’s event will take place on the 9th September on The Greens in Oysterbay and banks on the previous assets of the races: a fun family-event with proceeds going to charitable projects.
